Tesla opens another Semi Megacharger, reveals major cost savings over diesel

Tesla has opened another Megacharger station for the Tesla Semi, this time in Tulare, California, marking the third new location to come online in as many days.
The new station, located at the Flying J travel center at 979 E. Paige Avenue, features four charging stalls designed specifically for Tesla’s electric semi-truck.
Tesla Charging confirmed the opening on October 9, just one day after the company activated its first Megacharger under its partnership with Pilot in Ellabell, Georgia.
That followed the opening of an eight-stall Megacharger in Conley, Georgia, giving Tesla three new locations and 18 additional charging stalls in three days.
Tesla Semi charging costs compared to diesel
Alongside the latest opening, Tesla Semi’s Dan Priestley shared some interesting figures highlighting the potential operating cost advantages of electric trucking.
According to Priestley, diesel fuel costs truck operators more than $1.00 per mile in California, compared to approximately $0.60 per mile when charging a Tesla Semi on the company’s Megacharger network.
More Megachargers coming soon
Tesla’s partnership with Pilot is also starting to gain momentum. With Tulare now open, 11 more Megacharger locations are under construction, including stations in Fort Stockton, Texas, and North Las Vegas, Nevada, that are nearing completion.
Sites will get four to eight stalls, with every stall able to push as much as 1.2 MW. Tesla says that output can add as much as 60% to a Semi’s battery in roughly half an hour.
The expansion comes shortly after Tesla officially opened its high-volume Semi factory in Nevada, which has an annual production capacity of 50,000 trucks.
